Is There Such a Thing as Indoor Pavers?

Outdoor pavers have become quite popular, whether accenting a pathway, creating a spectacular patio, or used to highlight an impressive driveway; but is there such a thing as indoor pavers? The answer is yes, and they offer a unique and beautiful look all of their own.

Indoor pavers are made out of concrete, limestone, granite, marble, sandstone, and slate, and offer a beautiful range of color options. There is also a brick veneer, which can be used either indoors or outdoors. Brick veneer looks wonderful in a kitchen around a range hood, accenting a wall, or placed around a fireplace. It can also be used in a front entryway. Rubber pavers are made completely out of recycled rubber and are soft and very durable. They work well for more heavy-duty interior purposes, such as a children’s playroom, garage, or basement.

Indoor pavers tend to be shaped either as rectangles or squares, and can be installed in a parallel pattern or staggered like bricks. Depending on the material of the paver, installation is much the same as laying normal tile. You have the option of locking them tightly together or leaving room for a grout line.

Unless you simply love the look or need pavers for a particular purpose, most consumers tend to choose other flooring products for their main living areas. However, interior pavers can be a great solution to dress-up a garage or basement floor. Another possible scenario where they work well is to continue the pavers from an exterior patio into a sun room or mud room.

Just because interior pavers are not yet widely used, may simply mean the look just hasn’t quite caught on yet. If you want to learn more about incorporating pavers into your interior design, request free, no obligation estimates from pre-certified contractors.
