Sensational Swimming Pool Design

There’s nothing more refreshing than a cool swimming pool to quench the scorching summer heat. What better way to spend your lazy summer afternoons than lounging beside the pool with a cold drink? With summer quickly approaching, it’s time to install that pool you’ve been dreaming of. While you’re at it, why not create a backyard utopia at the same time?

Swimming pools can be installed both in-ground and above-ground. Equally as important as the pool itself are the surrounding accessories.

Naturalistic Swimming Pools are very popular right now. Available in a multitude of unique shapes and sizes, these pools imitate a sparkling spring bubbling up into a swimming hole. Surrounded with natural rocks, pool pavers, or lush greenery, you feel as though you’ve stumbled upon a tropical paradise.

In-ground swimming pools come in three different options:

  • Vinyl (PVC) Liner - One of the least popular models, a vinyl liner is slippery and easily torn. The seams tend to collect algae, and the liner will need to be replaced within 7-9 years. On the plus side, it is less expensive, easier to install, and requires fewer chemicals for maintenance.
  • Gunite - Gunite is a concrete mix that is sprayed onto a frame constructed of concrete or steel to form the floor and walls of the pool. It can be dyed or sealed to create the color you desire. More expensive, it also requires a large amount of chemicals to balance the ph levels. More durable than vinyl, it does require about 4-5 hours of maintenance each week, and will need to be recoated within 5-7 years.
  • Fiberglass - An average cost, the fiberglass pool is the only model that comes with a lifetime warranty. The surface will not alter the water balance, requiring fewer chemicals. Weekly maintenance is less, only about a ½ hour per week. Perhaps the best feature, this pool should not need major renovation at any point.

A heated pool is more conducive to use in all seasons, but can be quite expensive. Consider using a heat-absorbing pool cover, or installing a solar heating system.

Compliment your pool with elegant surroundings. Try adding a cascading waterfall, or incorporate a glass mural within the pool. Lighting adds a breathtaking effect, especially at night. Try underwater lights, surface lights around the edges, or decorative patio lights. Surrounding decks complete with a hot tub are nice as well.

Whatever your fancy, the addition of a pool brings elegance and luxury to any home. However, installing a pool is an expensive investment and it is imperative that it is done correctly for durability and low-maintenance. In-ground pool installation is a difficult process and requires skilled craftsmanship. If not done correctly, it can lead to structural problems and costly repairs in the future. If it’s time to create your dream backyard, contact one of our certified contractors today to turn your dreams into a reality.
