When most people design a home 5,500 square feet in size, adding gadgets comes lastusually after the dust has settled. But for Gad Shaanan, tech master of such things as cell phones and commuter trains, innovative and time-saving extras were top priorities for his spectacular La Jolla home. Among the man-I-wish-I-had-that additions? A dumbwaiter to carry the groceries from the trunk of the car directly to the pantrys shelves, and a fold-out ironing board situated over the fireplace in the master retreatsmack dab in front of the flat screen TV. However, with ocean front views and a light and airy modern design, Shaanans home has more to offer than high-tech conveniences. The main floor living area is brought together in a seamless design that incorporates the indoors with the out, punctuated by creamy Jerusalem stone tiling hand-picked in Israel by Shannan himself. Neutral, earthy tones contrast with the blues of the ocean and sky. Another seating area on the main floor is backed by an adjoining dining space with room for 14. Colors may be sparse, but textures are present throughout each space. Adding to the perfect entertainment setting is a gourmet kitchen complete with five ovens and two stoves. Stainless steel reigns in this room with frosted glass cabinets to hide cook books and other essentials. But whats the true highlight of this design gem and technological wonder? A stunning backyard that blends perfectly with the design scheme of the interior. A comfortable seating area and an inviting pool make this area a sure favorite for guests and family alike.
