Small Kitchen Got You Down? Think Outside the Galley

Ample square footage doesn’t have to be a prerequisite for designing a room with a spacious feel, but having an innovative architect might be. Janet Bloomberg of Kube Architects turned a cramped kitchen in this D.C. Capitol Hill home into a functional space with a serene flow.

Check out this brilliant idea for upping your kitchen space. The curved bar, while only 8 inches wide, actually provides a significant amount of under-counter storage for spices, small dishes, etc. Adding to the spacious feel is a bank of floor-to-ceiling windows on the opposite wall.
Adjacent to the bar is a seating area complete with noticeably modern touches. The owner’s favorite piece is a table from the Frank Gehry Collection, which he purchased from Nova68.com. Pendant lighting provides a soft glow while adhering to the sleek design style.
While this kitchen may not be a perfect fit for say, Julia Child, it seems more than fitting for the urbanite on the go. Or of course, for someone that likes to throw killer parties.
