If residents of Maricopa County, Arizona were still on the fence about home solar, a new rebate program might just seal the deal. phoenix home solar panels Put into place by the Maricopa City Council, the program allows owners of solar systems to receive a return of 60 cents for every direct connect watt (up to $3,000). This can be added to the other rebate offers currently in effect: $2.15 per kilowatt under the Electrical District No. 3 rebate, as well as the state and federal rebates of varying amounts. All in all, property owners could receive as much as $5,000 come tax time. So where is all that extra money coming from? A few places, but most notably a $92,000 renewable energy grant awarded to the city a year ago. In addition, Energy District No. 3 residential users are charged 30 cents per month to fund their renewable energy program. Commercial users are charged as much as $12, racking up more than $100,000 per year. The solar rebate program is slated to start immediately, but high on the list to receive the funds are those already on the ED-3’s list for solar systems. They expect to be able to help at least 32 local households make their solar dreams a reality. Photo via Flickr CC: Udall Foundation
