Ceiling Types

The sky's the limit when it comes to designing your ceilings. One of the biggest considerations for ceilings is height. Raised ceilings illuminate the room with a larger space and give the home a more custom appearance. Raised ceiling options include the cathedral ceiling, tray ceiling, cove ceiling, and more.

On the other end of the spectrum is the drop ceiling. Popular in rooms such as the basement, drop ceilings create a sound barrier to help keep a room quiet. They can also cover unsightly wiring and pipes that are located along the top of the room. Keep in mind, though, that you will lose about 8 inches of headroom with a dropped ceiling.

But height isn't the only way to personalize your ceiling. Even the standard, 8 ft ceiling can become unique with its own finishing material, whether it's drywall, tile, tin, or a hand-painted mural.
