Is your home lacking in style? Do your walls look barren as though they are missing something? There are many techniques you can apply to give your home a makeover, and one of the quickest and most striking is to install decorative moldings.
There is a good chance your room already has some form of trim in at least one location. Moldings come in the form of baseboards, window trims, crown, and accent pieces. The best way to really cause moldings to stand out is to first paint your wall a contrasting color. Wood moldings can be stained; but plaster, plastic, and MDF are normally painted.
Use moldings to elongate your walls, set-off the ceilings, or accentuate your windows; use smaller moldings to add a wall accent or encase a fireplace. Moldings can be clean and simple, or striking and elegant. Moldings manufactured out of the materials MDF (medium density fiberboard), plastic, polyurethane, and polystyrene are all reasonable affordable. Solid wood is more expensive, and plaster is the most expensive.
