Semi-gloss paint is the go-between -- the intermediary, if you will -- between glossy and flat finishes. Semi-gloss is the middle ground. It is ideal for homeowners who don't want the extreme reflectivity of a high-gloss finish but also would like to steer clear of the dull vulnerability of a matte finish.
Also called a satin finish by some paint makers, semi-gloss is not too glossy but can still take a good cleaning (several of them actually). For this reason it is especially popular in children's rooms and often found in kitchens and bathrooms as well.
Semi-gloss is (ideally) just flat enough to conceal wall imperfections but still glossy enough to prevent staining and provide durability.
