Must-Have Tips for Painting Wood Siding
Cold
winters and hot summers may have taken a toll on your home’s exterior wood
siding. A quick once-over of your home can tell you if your home is in need of
new paint. You may find that some of the exterior
siding has faded, due to direct sunlight. The good news is the rest your
siding may be in pretty good shape. If that’s the case, it’s okay to replace just the trouble spots.
- Here’s how to paint exterior wood siding. Don’t paint in direct sunlight; it can cause bubbling. The
south side of your house gets the most sun exposure, so before painting, adjust
your timing for more shady conditions.
- If you’re replacing old siding, make sure to prime both
faces and paint the edges before attaching.
Other preparations are very important, such as scrapping away old paint, cleaning
the surface areas, adding a drop cloth to protect vegetation, and removal of rotting
siding.
- When painting, start at the highest point and then work your
way down. Paint one small section at a time,
then slide you ladder over. Eventually you’ll have a band of new paint from one
side of the house to the other. Continue this pattern until you reach the
bottom. Obviously, the painting gets easier the lower you go.
- To paint dormers,
eaves and gables, you’ll probably have to get on the roof. A ladder usually can’t reach these areas. Then, use the
same painting tactics: start at the top and paint your way down to the bottom.
It’s important to provide this regular upkeep to your home and paint adds a
great protective layer. If you have more questions about exterior painting, I

Here is what has been said about our House Painting Contractors:
Thank you John for a superb job especially the way you cleaned up at the end of each day, it was nice to come home after work and find our home in same manner as we had left that morning except for the beautiful new paint on our walls and trim. I will highly recommend Burke Painting to any of my family and friends who are looking for a custom painter.
I've already recommended you to a couple of my friends. Thank you for a first rate custom paint job, my doors look like they have a factory paint finish on them. Exactly what I was looking for. -- Darlene - Lafayette
