Kitchen Lighting

Perhaps it's just bias, but I think one of the most important features of a kitchen is its lighting. Lighting is incredibly powerful. It helps set the mood for your kitchen and creates an ambiance like nothing else. You can select anything from recessed lighting to low-hanging lamps, and any type of bulb from LED to halogen.

Here are a few guidelines to keep your lighting on track.

You need a lot of it. You can’t go wrong with lots of lighting. More often than not, you find yourself thinking, “I wish I had some more light over here,” rather than complaining that you have too much. Go for some variability in the lighting level by installing several light switches or a variety of lighting fixtures.

You need it in all the right places. Where is just as important as what. Make sure that the important work spaces are illuminated, such as the sink, island, and stove. Under-cabinet lighting, above-cabinet lighting, in-cabinet lighting and even floor lighting are creative touches that will enhance your kitchen’s beauty and uniqueness.

You need it to save money. Lighting is important, but it can also be an energy hog. Consider using energy-efficient bulbs or LED lighting where possible.
