If you’re looking to turn your yesteryear kitchen into a modern classic on a moderate budget, Kitchen Classics cabinetry may be something to look into.

Kitchen Classics (KC) offers a full line of “ready-to-be-assembled” cabinetry. This is what enables them to keep the cost of the cabinets low. They have all pieces pre-drilled and include the hardware needed to assemble the cabinets in one box. KC cabinets can be assembled by anyone in just a matter of minutes (5 for wall cabinets, 10 for bases, the website says). The simplicity of assembling knocked-down cabinets truly is amazing and you will only need a few basic tools to accomplish the task.

The advantages to KC cabinets are that you can buy an entire kitchen’s worth of cabinetry for a fraction of the price. There’s a modest selection in styles, woods and finishes. Installation of these cabinets, however, will be the same as with any other kitchen cabinet brand, so if you wouldn’t feel qualified to install high-end cabinets, you won’t find these any simpler - it's best to get a contractor.

The extensiveness of KC cabinets is what sets them above other knocked-down brands. Most only have a handful of designs to choose from. KC, however, has over 20 different door styles and even offers some of the features that are mostly reserved for custom or semi-custom lines, like glass door inserts, open shelf units, wine racks and outer corner cabinets.

One of the drawbacks is that, like other knocked-down cabinetry lines, they are made mostly with particle board (known on the KC site as "thermobonded melamine"), laminates and veneers. Very little real or solid wood is used in the cabinet construction, meaning that the cabinets are not as durable as they could be. For very heavy or prolonged use, you may find that particle board backs, sides and shelving just won’t stand the test of time.
