So you have made it through the intensive process of configuring your layout, choosing the design, style, color, and type of material for your kitchen cabinets. You have either hired a special contractor, or chosen to purchase pre-built products from a cabinet manufacturer. Whatever the case, now is the exciting point when you see your kitchen begin to take shape with the actual installation of the cabinets.

• Base Cabinets. Installing the lower cabinets, or the ones that sit on the floor, is much easier than installing the upper cabinets. Using a level, attach a board as a guide to where you intend the cabinets to reach. Install each cabinet according to this reference point, using shims as needed. After all of the base cabinets are installed by screwing them to the floor, screw them to each other through the sides. Finally, place the wood sheeting over the top of the cabinets and screw into place in preparation for the countertopping.
• Upper Cabinets. The installation of upper cabinets is a bit more difficult and it helps to have an extra hand. Again, first install a guide-board that is level. Follow that guide and attach each cabinet to both the ceiling and the wall behind, being sure to first locate the studs.

After the cabinets are firmly attached, accessorize with moldings and trims. The doors, drawers, and hardware are then installed to complete the installation. Installing the doors should also be completed meticulously. If the hinges are not properly aligned, the doors will not open and close properly.
