Programmable dimmer switches allow you to preset the light levels for the switch. They can also allow you to program when the light will turn off or on (great for kids' rooms). Basic programmable dimmers have a large paddle switch with a small dimmer that allows the light level to be preset. More advanced models may be touch sensitive and have small LED lights that show the preset light level, even when the switch is turned off.
Programmable switches are considerably more expensive than more basic rotary and slider versions. They often run up to $40 per switch.
