Today’s world provides multiple design options for the remodeling homeowner. Painting is no exception, and there are so many different colors and methods to choose from, it can make your decision difficult. Textured paints are a wonderful choice, both because of their uniqueness and their beauty.
Textured paint is a quick and easy way to dress-up a plain wall or ceiling. It also works well for covering imperfections or damaged areas such as nail pops in new drywall, uneven drywall jobs, rips, dents, or dings from daily household use or nail holes from hanging picture frames and artwork. Naturally you don’t need imperfect or damaged walls in order to opt for textured paint; it may just be something you do to create a new and unique finish to your room.
Using textured paints on the ceiling or walls can give your home a more artistic feel, but for some textured paints, you may need to be a bit artsy to make the finished product look just so.
Different paint methods can be used to make a textured finish; some products are textured upon application while others are simply thicker paints that can be worked with special tools to create a texture after it’s been applied to walls or ceilings.

Not only are the products and applications varied, the look and feel of the textures they make vary as well. Depending on which textured paint you opt for, you can make patterns such as a high-peak stipple effect, a heavy ridge swirl pattern, a slightly gritty texture, or a marble-like appearance.
Each different type of paint product will have its own method of application. Textured paints probably shouldn’t be sprayed from a paint sprayer, as it will clog the sprayer. Some can simply be applied with a roller or a brush, while others will require a stiff brush, trowel, or a special textured roller.
While textured paint is a great way to give a room a more creative feel or to hide wall blemishes, it can be difficult to redo later. Textured finishes are difficult to take off of walls and repainting over them requires 15 to 25 percent more paint than flat walls.
Granite
Crystals. You can get these little packets of sand-like granules that can
be mixed into paints to make sparkling glints of light, making the textured
flecked finish resemble beautiful rocks and minerals.
Sandstone. This textured paint is similar to the granite crystals, except that it is premixed and ready for use. Sandstone will give your walls a gritty look – like you’ve literally painted over grains of sand stuck to your walls. It’s applied with a half-inch nap roller in a very specific formation. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s directions on how to apply the paint, making sure to use the product generously for a thick even coat.
Smooth Texture Paint. With this product, you can make a finished wall with
a high peaked stipple effect or heavy ridge swirls. You must take care to prep
the walls properly before applying the smooth texture paint, so carefully read
the manufacturer’s instructions ahead of time. This paint must be applied with
a
stiff brush, putty knife, or trowel, and patterns should be formed while the
paint is still wet; in three-foot areas at once and working to blend each
section into the next.
Venetian Plaster. This may be the most opulent of all the textured finishes, creating the look of marble with “layers of rich, opaque color with delicate tone-on-tone highlights.” Of course attaining this luxurious look can be a real labor of love, taking three layers of paint to accomplish, each layer requiring a different technique as specified by the manufacturer.

California Construction Center is a wonderful company. These guys are truly concerned with the happiness and satisfaction of the homeowner. The foreman was always asking me if I was happy with the work. If I wanted any changes made, they were taken care of right away. There was always someone available to take my calls, and if I did have to leave a message, I would get a call back in minutes. All unforeseen work that wasn’t incorporated into the original bid was addressed with out them asking for more money. I am sincerely very happy with them and the work. These guys seem to be the only company that tells the truth. They were upfront about every aspect of the project. Everything that was on the contract was done. They genuinely care about the customer.
