Small Bathroom Remodeling
The challenge with a small bathroom is that it has all the
same needs as a large or standard-sized bathroom, except with less space to
accommodate them. Luckily, there are many ways to give the appearance of space
and make a small room cozy and comfortable rather than constricting. Here are
some tips to get started.
- Use the
corners of the room to gain space. You can do this with a corner-fitting
medicine cabinet, a quadrant shower with a curved
door, or a neo-angle
shower and door. Stand-alone pedestal sinks
can also be placed in the corner of the room.
- Purchase
smaller fixtures. Everything from toilets and small sinks, tubs and vanities come
in petite sizes. For instance, small tubs are less than 5 feet long. Removing
the bathtub altogether might be a good idea if you already have a tub in a
second bathroom. When it comes to toilets, rounded bowls are usually smaller
than elongated ones. Just remember to allow 30 inches from the front of the
toilet to the nearest object.
- Use glass
and mirrors. They can make the room look bigger, especially when you have
two mirrors facing each other. Glass shower doors can also contribute to a more
spacious atmosphere.
- Maximize
your lighting. Natural light can be enhanced with skylights or etched
glass. Decorative light is important for functionality and brightening dark
corners. You can combine a strip of lights with a mirrored medicine cabinet to
save room. When it comes to paint, choose lighter, neutral colors like beige,
yellow, or white.
- Eliminate
counter space. Counters are bulky space fillers. If you can’t do without
one, combine your counter space, storage space, and sink with a small vanity. A
wall hung
sink gets rid of the accompanying counter space and saves a lot of room.
Also, try placing racks on shower doors and hooks behind the entry door to hang
towels or robes.
- Make the
room look taller. Drawing the eye upward with vertical strips or a ceiling
border will increase the room’s sense of height.
Finally, getting rid of clutter and keeping the room nice
and clean will keep a small bathroom roomy and pleasing to the eye. Click here to view our small bathroom ideas. And as usual,
