Types of Showers
From humble to ostentatious, shower types come in many attitudes. It’s a good idea to research your options before proceeding with your anticipated bathroom remodel. Here at CalFinder, we believe a little planning goes a long way. Beyond the traditional prototype, we’ve selected three very different shower models to summarize, giving you a general idea of just how diverse your choices can be.
Walk-In
The ultra modern walk-in shower changes the whole concept of an enclosed shower. With no moving parts to speak of, walk-in showers feature an open end for entry and come in an endless variety of shapes and sizes. Some walk-in showers can encompass an entire wet room, similar to those found in fancy spas. Others are similar in size to standard showers. Designed for extra space, walk-in showers are accessible via paneled entryways.
A special consideration for the walk-in shower is appropriate flooring. A wet room, for instance, is designed with an entirely waterproof floor. Smaller walk-in showers have extended waterproof flooring to catch potential leaks that stem from the interior of the shower space.
Steam
Because they’re so luxurious and relaxing, steam showers are often found in gyms and health spas. This type of shower is also popular in various parts of the world.
The steam shower can also be a fabulous residential indulgence. It is frequently a standalone shower that includes a traditional shower head and a steam generator to produce steam vapor. Steam showers require special, self-contained enclosures to prevent escaping steam from damaging home building materials, such as drywall, paint, wallpaper, or other objects.
Pre-fabricated
Pre-fabricated showers are single-piece stalls molded from materials such as fiberglass, laminate, acrylic, or synthetic marble. Unlike the shower models above, pre-fabricated showers are inexpensive, airtight, and easy to install and clean. They are sought by homeowners looking for convenience, reliability, and no-fuss solutions.
Factory-made pre-fabricated showers are an alternative to tiled showers made from stone. They often come with added features such as shelves and benches. Because of their design, single-piece pre-fabricated showers are often too large for remodel install. Multi-piece pre-fabricated units are a good alternative, consisting of a separate shower pan and solid side panels that fit easily through your doorways and are just as easy for you or your certified remodeler to install.
