No bathroom is complete without the element of light. Fortunately, installing bathroom lighting can be one of the most accommodating components of your bathroom remodel. Lighting can be adjusted and positioned to highlight specific areas or tone down brightness for a more relaxed mood. To begin with, you can choose from a variety of lighting types according to your preferences.

Bar lights consist of a series of lights mounted to a metal bar that usually attaches above the sink or countertop. Vanity globes are often placed on bar lights. Vanity globes consist of light bulbs enclosed in round, white bulbs made from glass. Appropriately, these bulbs can be found over vanity mirrors where strong, wide light highlights the reflection while applying makeup or shaving. Bar lights often comprise of 3 or more vanity globes or other lighting.

Vanity globes can be toned done with a frosted option. Similarly, shading around a bulb can be directed upwards to brighten the entire room or downward to focus on one specific area, such as an accent piece, a dark corner, or a shelf. The color of the shading also affects the intensity of light.

Sconces are common bathroom lighting fixtures that regularly feature shading. They consist of a light feature holding one shade and one bulb, similar to a lamp. Unlike a lamp, bathroom sconces are attached to the walls. Sconces can provide both accent lighting and ambient lighting, depending on number and placement. When purchasing sconces for the bathroom, make sure they are wet or damp rated to withstand humidity.

Finally, recessed lighting is perhaps the most simple and functional ambient lighting option. These circular lights are positioned flush with the ceiling with no hanging parts, and are sufficient to light the entire room.
