Stunning Living Room Beauty Doesn’t Mean a Lot of Furniture

Picture of work completed by Ark Contracting, Inc. in Bethesda, Maryland

Minimalism is in, but this living room does a number on minimalism that is worth a closer look. One of the lessons that it teaches is that stunning living room beauty doesn’t mean a lot of furniture. Built-in shelving works to this room’s advantage by providing a point for the eye to focus upon, exhibiting various elements of decor. Still, the overriding tone is simplicity and conscious placement.

The contrast between wall of windows on the left and wall of exposed brick on the right is fascinating—a stroke of design genius. It combines opposites and marries the beauty of both wall surfaces in a striking way.

Although it’s small, the carpet serves as a design centerpiece for the living room. The colors of the rug really pop, especially when backed by the oak-toned flooring. Echoes of the carpet’s peach color are hinted in the yellow design of the chairs. And the pink and red squares on the carpet appear in the window cabinets and the bookshelf area as well.
