Since its founding in 1980, White Lighting has grown from a small painting, drywall, and trim carpentry business to a full-service remodeling and building company. Homeowners based in Maricopa and Yavapie counties can depend on White Lighting for all their remodeling needs, including additions, kitchens and baths, and existing and detached spaces. In addition to working on single family residencies, White Lighting performs tenant improvements (TIs) for commercial clients.
Attention to Service
After 28 years with White Lighting, owner Richard Laflame bases his success on excellent customer service. Though he's now got a team of 10-15 subcontractors working under him, Laflame has intentionally kept the business on the smaller side.
"We intend to stay small rather than being a big-time operator. I believe in service. When I come home at night, I don't want to worry about what went on during the day. We don't overextend ourselves. Other contractors encounter problems because they don't know how to do the work or have the time to do it. We do our work right. What we do is clean."
Communication Is Key
Along with good service, Richard believes in communication. Minor issues never escalate with White Lighting because the team is there to listen and handle the concerns right away. "When there's a problem, I like to be there and solve the problem before you 'have a fire going.' You have to return calls and listen to the customer, knowing that the customer is always right – to a certain extent."
Love of Carpentry
Oftentimes, homeowners don't know where to start amid all the choices they have during the remodeling process. Richard enjoys sharing ideas and educating consumers on design, materials, and process. He also enjoys focusing on the details like doorways, baseboards, and trimwork.
"My grandfather was a carpenter and it ran in the family. I truly enjoy working with my hands because I leave an impression with people for life. I enjoy carpentry and design, as well as working with people, even when, at times, you almost have to read their minds to start giving them ideas."
