Background

When Colorific Painting first started, it was a smaller company that mostly did government contracting and state work. Eventually, the company got involved in re-paints. Around 1986, Colorific Painting started new residential painting for homebuilders. This became the company's main focus over the next 20 years. Today, Colorific Painting continues to do new residential painting while diversifying into re-paints. In business for 35 years, the company services Central and East Contra Costa County, as well as parts of Alameda County and Stockton.

Philosophy

Colorific Painting's main philosophy is effective communication and customer satisfaction. "We believe our quality and our communication with our customers is what sets us apart from our competitors," says CFO Jared Cuevas. "We keep an open line with our customers so if they have any concerns or changes to the work they want done, we will gladly accommodate them. We also put in the extra time on our work to make sure that the finished product is a quality job."

Prep Work

Colorific Painting currently has a staff of about 50 employees, many who work on new residential homes for builders. The scope of these projects entails detailed interior and exterior prep work to receive a quality paint job. "Some of the prep work includes caulking, puttying, spackling, sanding on the woodwork to receive paint or stained finishes, and priming materials that need to be primed to receive the paint job."

According to Jared, prep work begins with the initial survey of the house. "We make sure that all the substrates are ready to accept the paint. We do not want to have problems with the paint properly adhering to the surface. If we are repainting an exterior we will power wash the house to clean it off, we will do all the necessary caulking, spackling, and sanding to the house as well as fill the cracks in the stucco. Taking time to do the prep work right ensures that the paint finish will look better. After the painting is complete it is also important to make sure that all the lines are evenly cut and that we clean up properly around the house."

Working with Homeowners

The biggest concerns homeowners have with painting projects involve scheduling, completing a job within the estimated timeframe, and which products are being used on the job. To address these concerns, Colorific Painting schedules the job within a reasonable timeframe, making sure this timeframe fits into the homeonwers' schedule. "We also use the best products for the job and explain to the homeowner what products we are using and what we are using them for. We do keep open a line of communication with the homeowner if they have questions, concerns, or changes to the scheduling or what they want done."
