Chaun Miller Construction

For the past 15 years, Chaun Miller Construction has helped homeowners in North County San Diego get the remodeling results they want while striving to employ sustainable building practices. “We work hard to find the right balance between form and function, with a commitment to provide our clients with the most informed choices in making their project green, architecturally relevant, and something to be proud of,” says Owner/General Contractor Chaun Miller.

About the Owner

Chaun Miller is a third-generation builder and general contractor. His grandfather had the first kitchen showroom in Baltimore, before Home Depot. Chaun’s start in the industry took place in concrete and steel residential construction in a region that was prone to hurricanes. From there, he moved into high-end commercial retail, with clients that included Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Raberto Cavali, and Abercrombie. After relocating to San Diego, Chaun became a project manager for a firm building large custom homes. He’s since settled on residential remodeling, as this is the greenest form of construction by nature.

“We continually strive to develop and employ the most sustainable building practices, with an emphasis on conservation,” Chaun says.

The Chaun Miller Difference

With a small staff and a handful of highly skilled subcontractors, Chaun Miller Construction typically sticks with one or two projects at a time, as they usually range from 20k to 500K and require a lot of attention.

“What makes me different from other contractors in my trade is a real dedication to customer service and quality,” Chaun says. “A happy customer provides referrals, and quality craftsmanship is something to be proud of, reducing callbacks and liability.”

We view the construction process as a collection of many very small details and tasks.  A large project may be broken down into a thousand small tasks and details that require a great deal of patience, persistence, and experience to execute. It’s the tendency for many contractors to skip some or many of the tasks, overlooking some details and quality control in the interest of trying to increase their profit margin. By compromising on the quality or quantity of materials used, a contractor will finish more quickly, but leaves the customer with a poor outcome  as well as opening himself up to a host liability issues. On the other hand, if Chaun Miller were to install crown molding on a difficult corner, we would recut the piece as many times as it took to make it fit instead of trying to hide the bad cut with caulking.

At Chaun Miller, our favorite aspect of this business is the creative process, manifesting ideas into form with the intention of that creation being beautiful enough and built well enough that it will stand for many years.  Many of our clients are still friends today and continue to refer us.
