In case you thought that window companies simply produced windows all day, you’re wrong. Some window companies are raising the bar with charitable donations, unprecedented community involvement and eco-friendly innovations. You begin to wonder when they have time to design and make windows. One such company is Jeld-Wen.
Like most companies, Jeld-Wen had small beginnings. The little Oregon shop with just over a dozen workers formed the nucleus of the company. In those early days, the founders developed a vision for diligent craftsmanship and thoughtful planning. Now, as a major holding company with 20,000 employees in its ranks, Jeld-Wen continues to cling to the strong work ethic and impeccable values upon which it was founded. It shows in their level of involvement and contribution to the community.
Jeld-Wen K-12 Tradition Foundation
The Tradition Foundation is a charitable foundation developed by Jeld-Wen in order to support K-12 education. The goal of the foundation is to sponsor innovative education programs, delivery mechanisms and partnership arrangements. Jeld-Wen Tradition has raised over $1.5 million for the foundation.
Bailout: Not Just for the Big Boys
Bailouts seem to be nearly as common as bankruptcies. But homeowners are hurting, too. That’s why Jeld-Wen started the “Utility Bill Bailout,” awarding one lucky homeowner the chance to win a complete makeover of new, highly efficient Energy Star qualified windows and doors. Jeld-Wen’s contribution to a homeowner’s struggle to pay the bills is going to provide a lifelong contribution to that home’s energy efficiency.
A long time ago, Jeld-Wen made it their goal to be the industry leader in environmentally responsible practices and products. Now, their accomplishments are many and varied.
To date, the Jeld-Wen team:
- Paves the way for LEED certification products and buildings
- Is a leader in VOC-reduction
- Makes limited use of product transport
- Is a member of the Green Building Initiative of the United States Green Building Council
- Produces windows and doors that enhance energy efficiency around the globe
- Employs a manufacturing process that uses recycled waste
It appears that they are doing quite well at achieving their goal.
Every company needs to have fun. Jeld-Wen relaxes through their involvement in professional golf. They are the official window, door and millwork provider for the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Their windows and doors are used in Tournament Players clubhouses around the nation, even in the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse. Jeld-Wen is one of three exclusive Proud Partners of the Players, a premier PGA Tour event.
Jeld-Wen has the interests of collegians in mind, too. A recent design competition offered $6,000 dollars to college students for designing innovative entry doors.
