Old Memories into Spiffy New Window Coverings

From on March 22nd, 2010 in Window Replacement

While recent generations have become accustomed to the instant gratification of a digital camera, there used to be a time (not that I remember it) when memories came in the form of film slides.  If you still have a roll in your collection, I’m guessing they’re probably packed away in some attic gathering dust.  Not anymore, my friends.

Taking DIY home improvement projects to the next level, this brilliant idea utilizes those old film slides by turning them into a brightly colored window covering.  Not only does it find a new use for old memories, but it eliminates the need for drab, ordinary blinds or curtains.

If you’re just itching to make your own set: good news.  All you need is your slides, a drill, a pile of aluminum-chain rings, and you’ve got yourself window coverings that all your neighbors are sure to envy.

This is a great decorating idea.

It’s a horrible preservation idea. The sunlight will ruin those slides over time, so I wouldn’t do this with any slides I care dearly about; they’ll be ruined by the UV rays.

Only use slides that you’re willing to sacrifice or that you have copies of (whether they’re digitized copies, prints, or duplicate slides).

That’s a really important point.

I’ll only use the film slides of my dad, shirtless on vacation…. :p

Thanks Rae!
