Many contractors are not as busy as they were a couple of years ago, and the prices of materials are also lower. Just be sure that you get a reputable contractor and never pay in advance. Check references and take the time to see some of their prior work. We have remodeled our house in stages for 20+ years and always had a great experience with contractors, and all our projects have been done within budget. We wrote a book - The Happy Remodelers - to show other homeowners how they can also have their cake and eat it too when it comes to remodeling their houses.
