Dan and Lanny Danenberg have made quite a name for themselves in home design. Working toward innovative solutions but in the time-honored “customer is always right” fashion, the Palto Alto, CA husband-and-wife-team known as Danenberg Design are certified green builders constantly on the lookout for new challenges.
The bright and funky kitchen remodel above was their favorite so far. As Lanny Danenberg told us, it was “any designer’s dream project—a great client with good taste, a willingness to let us be in charge of the design and to go along with some very creative and unusual ideas. What fun!” Amazingly, that aura of whimsy and playfulness is balanced by equal parts functionality and smart design planning.

Japanese-Influenced Zen Bathroom
This gorgeous bathroom shows the Danenbergs’ penchant for Japanese architecture and interior design. The harmony in this room is incredible. A custom-made stainless steel soaking tub sits along one side of the galley-style master bathroom, and while it’s an interesting feature in itself, what really sells it is the Japanese rock garden design that surrounds it all. Aside from this, a montage of marble, stone, tile, metal and glass add enriching detail and eye-catching character to every angle of the room.
Where one might never choose bold yellow and purple paint for a master bathroom entrance, Danenberg Design has united unusual elements in a way that makes cohesive sense. The couple attributes this fascinating coordination ability to the fact that they’ve (separately and together over their lifetimes) lived and traveled internationally. Hawaii, Brazil, Peru, Japan and South America are just a few.
This globe-trotter experience gives them a unique perspective on home design, as well as a wealth of fresh ideas when it comes to finding solutions for client design dilemmas.
Kitchens, Kitchens & More Kitchens
We love these guys. The versatility here is incredible. Though they have just one office in Northern California, it’s their international panache that’s sure to put Danenberg Design on the map.
