Jen’s Wish List: 10 Holiday Gifts for Homeowners
From Jennifer on December 21st, 2009 in Home Decor
I love watching my kids make their holiday wish list every year. They never seem to have any trouble coming up with a directory as long as their arms. My husband and I, on the other hand, can’t help but be a bit more practical. It may seem boring, but wishing for things that will improve our lives at home is just as exciting to us as our sons’ rap sheet of frivolities.
Here are some of the things that top the list this year:
That’s my list for 2009. I’m sure 2010 will have me wanting all new things, but in the meantime, if you see my husband, please show him my list. It’s only December 21, so I’m sure he hasn’t bought me anything yet and could use the help!
1. Pandigital Kitchen Technology Center. I’m never away from my laptop for long, only when on kitchen duty. But now I can combine the two. Pandigital has a kitchen gadget that can help me come up with creative dinners AND be connected to the Internet. The Kitchen Technology Center is a digital cookbook, digital photo frame, television and Internet connection. |
2. Space. I’m not exactly wishing for the vast chasm of outer space – just a little nook for myself. I’m not expecting it to fit nicely under the tree, but a small remodel in the basement could give me an office away from the hustle and bustle of daily life on the upper floors. |
3. Mode Deluxe Home Recycling Center. Taking out the recycling every night is a chore for sure, especially when the snow is hiding the bins from me. A kitchen recycling center like the one by Mode would keep me from having to scour the adjacent woods for my buried bins. For now, anyway. |
4. NatureMill Compost Bins. Speaking of trashy things, I’d love nothing more than a contraption that would rapidly turn our organic trash into garden fodder for next spring. These compost bins can replace the stinky bowl on my kitchen counter and give me beautiful dirt for my tomatoes and peppers. |
5. Space Savers Drawer Organizers. Junk drawer – singular? Not at my house. EVERY drawer is a junk drawer in my kitchen. Maybe if I had the right organizers, all of my “stuff” would magically fall into place. Maybe my office drawers would follow the example as well. |
6. HP All-in-One Printer. Part of my office problem is the large expanse of desktop being eaten up by a separate fax machine, copier, printer and scanner. We’ve been considering nixing the home phone (We all have cells anyway, so what’s the point?) and replacing the office staff with one, convenient gadget, like these HP all-in-one devices that serve as laserjet printer, copier, scanner and fax machine. |
7. Ergonomic Office Chair. Like I said, I’m never away from my computer for long, but it would be great if I was a bit more comfortable. I think all of my essential parts would thank me if I were sitting in something designed for the wellbeing of my body. |
8. Air Purifier. With all of us home for the holidays, the one thing I’ve noticed is that it gets dusty and stuffy in here. A whole-home air purifier or a few strategically-placed room purifiers could have us all breathing easier the whole year through. |
9. Mantel. I love my wood stove. It’s so country and warm and charming. What I don’t love is looking at the connecting pipes running the huge height of my cathedral ceiling. A nice mantel or display area would really add to the aesthetics. Wood stove mantels are different from fireplace mantels, but if fashioned properly, they can bring a lot of character to the room and still be safe. |
10. Heavy-Duty Home Cleaning. You know what? Scrap my entire list and just get me someone who can blow through here and leave the house looking as clean as it did before we plopped down all of our stuff in it. I vacuum, sweep, clean fingerprints and scrub the toilets and tubs regularly, but what I really need is someone to take the time and do all of the nitty-gritty chores that I just can’t be bothered with. Fortunately, there are people out there who will come and give your house the once-over in a professional manner – like detailing your car, only for your entire house! |

Air Purifier it will makes our home a healthy home. A healthy, productive work environment includes clean indoor air. Planting more trees is one of the best solutions that can help in our environment problem.
