A rug isn’t just a rug. If chosen well, a rug creates not only the undercurrent for the whole room—it can be a stark centerpiece. Plus, there’s the whole comfort and warming factor. Here are some of my favorite rugs to get your brain working.
1. Brightly Modern
The Andalusia Rug from West Elm. Hand-woven and hand-bound, this unique design is a mix of 80% wool and 20% cotton, which means that it has warmth and heft despite being relatively thin.
The consistent yet interesting design can add detail to your room without overtaking other elements. Place a rug pad underneath for extra cushion. Also comes in a gorgeous dark brown. $39-$649.
2. Ocean Hand-Tufted
Whether you live by the ocean, long for it in your landlocked dwelling, or just want a calming element in your space, this Ocean Hand-Tufted Wool Rug offers a swirl of patterns and textures in calming blues and grays. Made completely with New Zealand quality wool, this cut and loop rug will calm you and give you the illusion that you’re about to step offshore and into the crest. $349.
3. English Countryside
The Southampton Rug at Jonathan Adler. It can be hard to find a quality rug in a square shape, but this beautiful hand-loomed llama’s wool rug comes in 6’ x 6’ and can now even be ordered in your own custom color. The green, however—hearkening to leisurely English afternoons on the countryside manor tennis court—isn’t bad, chaps.
4. Subtle Oomph
Dash & Albert’s Spinnaker Woven Cotton Rug. Ranging in all sizes, this beauty is a great example of the uniquely subtle yet noticeable rug patterns by this company. Thin and made solely of cotton, this is a great addition to a hardwood floor that needs less of a warming factor and more oomph. $28-$385.
5. Energy in Motion
Made of durable woven vinyl, the Chilewich Scratch rug offers unique visual texture to your floor space. The company even refers to it as “energy in motion.” Bonded with a flexible commercial-grade backing, and easy to care for, this is a great choice for those wanting to merge style with durability. From $550.
