6 Unexpected Celebrity Homes
From Brittany on August 20th, 2010 in Home Decor
When I hear the phrase “celebrity homes,” I think of the tacky over-the-top properties that stretch from Hollywood Hills up the Malibu coastline. I certainly don’t expect them to be examples of simple charm, great style or unique architecture. But believe it or not, there are exceptions to the norm (if you can call it that), and they come in rather spectacular packages. Here are 6 unexpected celebrity abodes, courtesy of our friends at HookedonHouses.
#1 – Diane Keaton’s Creative Spanish-Revival Home

With a remarkable library, expansive maps of various parts of the world and a room dedicated to LEGO-building for her two kids, Dexter and Duke, this is a home of learning and creativity. The house was built in 1927 by architect Ralph Flewelling, and looks like it’s on the market today for $11.9 million.
#2 – Charlie Sheen’s Enchanting Mediterranean

Charlie Sheen isn’t exactly known for his stand-up character, but the man sure has a rockin’ pad. With bold, green kitchen cabinets, stone flooring and windows reminiscent of Gothic architecture, this home has a spellbinding effect. And that wood-ceiling foyer! Incredible.

#3 – Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick’s 19th-Century Farmhouse

Amazingly, the man who decorated this house for Parker and Broderick is not an interior designer, but Eric Hughes, former vice president of production for Universal Studios. “I was a little scared,” Huges told Elle Decor. “This wasn’t just about putting up some paint and finding a toile sofa. But I think [Parker] felt comfortable knowing I wouldn’t decorate it to the nines in a movie-star sort of way.” With total comfort at the core, the house is perfect for cozy weekend getaways, trips to the beach and decompressing after chaotic film schedules.
#4 – Whoopi Goldberg’s Awesome NYC Loft

No decorators here; this space is all Whoopi. An art collector and lover of natural-earth textures, Whoopi has personalized her 2 bed, 2.5 bath SoHo loft to the tee. I especially love the different-patterned hardwood floors in each part of the loft.
#5 – Halle Berry’s Sweet Retreat

Rustic and Mediterranean, the “vibe is majestic, yet casual with vaulted heavy wood-beamed ceilings, wide-planked wood floors, detailed custom-made ironwork, stone-carved fireplaces, dramatic staircase” and the list goes on. The house, only a 2-bed, 2-bath’er, is small but loaded with charm and craftsmanship. Halle Berry, boyfriend Gabriel Aubry and daughter, Nahla, are sure to feel totally at ease in their Hollywood hideaway.
#6 – Conan O’Brien’s New England-Style Colonial

Who knew comedian Conan O’Brien had such impeccable taste? The guy’s hilarious, but there’s nothing at all silly about his $10.7-million estate. A New England traditional, the Brentwood, CA property’s highlights are a spa, 1,500-bottle wine cellar and “magical canyon views.” Love the red front door and zebra-print rug!
