Last Chance for Old Appliance Rebates – Start Remodeling Today

From on October 7th, 2010 in Green Remodeling

Sick of your junky appliances? Time’s running out to take advantage of the Cash for Appliances program, a federally funded energy-efficiency program that gives you large cash rebates in return for your old dishwasher, refrigerator and more. As of today, thirty-eight states qualify.

The rebates are especially great for homeowners planning kitchen remodels, as they can get cash back for appliances they were going to replace anyway. Get a free estimate, or find out how much a kitchen remodel would cost in your area here.

How Does Cash for Appliances Work?

Simply show proof that you purchased a qualifying model, as well as proof that you recycled the old one, and you can receive as much as $555 for joint purchase of a refrigerator, washer, and dishwasher.

New York and New Jersey, which restarted their appliance rebate program last week, offer between $85 and $150 for individual appliances. Such local programs differ from the federal “Clash for Clunkers” program for trade-in cars—funds for the appliance programs are still in abundance, and more and more states are joining up each week.

Still, the programs are meant to stimulate the economy as well as greener living. Check out the list of approved programs for states and territories as of September 28, 2010, and consider the program in your state when it’s time to upgrade your living space.

Margaret, the advice you give about these Cash for Appliance programs is great. In your article, you mentioned that these programs are designed to stimulate the economy and provoke greener living. With that in mind, your readers should consider buying Energy Star products with the money they receive for their trade-ins. Though some Energy Star appliances may be a little more expensive than competing products, the long term benefits weigh that out. Not only are you saving energy and money, but you’re contributing to a greener environment as well.
