Bamboo flooring looks great indeed! My one criticism would be that I found it to be a bit soft/easily scarred by pets, children, furniture, etc. But on the whole I would recommend it to anyone. Just put a rug down in high traffic areas and pads on furniture legs.

In terms of design, bamboo flooring is excellent. I really enjoyed the way it reflected natural light around the room when installed.

It is true, just because you decide to go green doesn't mean you have to compromise design or quality.

In terms of another product that doesn't compromise design...
Recycled bamboo flooring is a great alternative to wood floors, it looks just like the real thing.
