Green Windows and Earthen Floors

If you are like many of us who are concerned about converting our homes and our overall way of life toward more eco-friendly practices and products, then you probably always welcome new sources to support your lifestyle. Here are a couple of ideas we found intriguing:

Consider installing earthen floors.

These aren’t quite like those described in “Little House on the Prairie,” but almost just as natural and sustaining. These clay floors are constructed in location by pouring a wet mixture of sand, straw, and clay over a gravel sub-floor. The hardened clay is then polished and sealed to create a natural flooring that absorbs heat for solar thermal heat gain and has a minimal carbon-footprint. The floors are also less expensive to install than other flooring materials.
