As spring fever begins to surge around the country, homeowners everywhere start feeling the itch for new beginnings around the house. Spring cleaning can be a celebration of open windows and fresh air, and deep cleaning all the dust and dirt that lodges in nooks and crannies over the course of a year is just so satisfying! Now, with a fresh new beginning, it’s time to take advantage of all the activities your area has to offer for refurbishing your home and gardens. Here are some events to look for.

Get Free Advice and Inspiration at a Home Show

hgexpo.gifThe classic in this category is ACS’s Home Show. ACS (which stands for American Consumer Shows) produces their expos for the home in cities all across the US. ACS describes the Home Show as “an event designed for homeowners in all stages of remodeling, landscaping and decorating their homes. Each event includes hundreds of exhibits with merchandise, sample interior and exterior vignettes, and product demonstrations.”

Jump Start Spring at the Garden Shows

A great spot to bookmark for updates on Home and/or Garden and Flower Shows is the Festival Network Online. Events are listed by date, and annual flower and garden shows are already happening, so don’t wait to check out this calendar of offerings to see what’s happening in your area. Each listing has a link taking you to more in-depth information about that particular event.

Use the Flea Finder

Did you know that there’s a national organization for flea markets? It’s called the National Flea Market Association, and its mission is “to serve the public interest and to benefit the flea market industry by fostering high standards of business conduct which merits public trust.” There’s a “flea finder” on the website that lets you enter your location, click, and get results for your surrounding area. Or, you can just click on your state and results are served up that way. Many of the flea market detail pages include links to that specific venue for more information.

Find Bargains Galore at Close-Out Sales

Your local newspaper is probably the best source of information about close-out sales for stores in your area. Since many of the businesses are locally owned, placing big ads in the local newspaper may be the only way you hear about these events – other than the giant signs in the store’s windows for passers-by to see. Naturally, in our Internet Age, there are places to shop close-outs online. One of these is CloseOut.com, which offers bargains galore in categories including computers and electronics, home furnishings, garden merchandise, and more.

Go Green at the Expos

The Go Green Expo is an eco-friendly extravaganza being produced in L.A., New York City, Atlanta, and Philadelphia in 2009. There will no doubt be regional spin-offs of this hot theme, but visiting the website of Go Green Expo will give you an idea of what you can expect to find at this type of event. In the section describing the company that produces the expo, readers discover that the expos not only showcase company and vendor products, they also educate attendees about the green movement and its importance for global sustainability.
