The Steep-Slope Home: An Organic Creation

From on January 4th, 2010 in General Remodel

Tolo House, the inspiration of architect Alvaro Leite Siza, is hard on the knees but easy on the eyes. The unusual structure is buried in the ground like a crypt on a sloping hillside in Portugal. But though it may look sepulchral, it’s designed very much for the living, with three bedrooms, one bath, a full kitchen, dining room, and yes, a living room.

The descent into Tolo House…

Outdoor amenities include a pool and panoramic views. This is one of those “organic” creations that functions through working with the landscape instead of manipulating the terrain to suit the desired build.
