Showing Off “Old Reliable”

According to Washingtonian Magazine, the consumer bible in the Washington Metro Area, CalFinder-certified Wheaton Home Improvement should be nicknamed “Old Reliable.” Since opening in 1945, the company has serviced close to 250,000 homeowners, working on the homes of their original customers’ children and their children’s children to span three, and sometimes, four generations.

President Jack Weber says, “If you are in a business like home remodeling, and you’re still in it after 65 years, you’ve gotta be doing something right.” Weber adds that in today’s economy, a company like Wheaton Home Improvement is one homeowners can trust. “People trust us in today’s difficult economy. Homeowners should ask themselves, “If I give this company a deposit check, will they come back and do the work? Three years from now, if I have a problem, will this contractor be out of business or will he be there for me to call him? That’s why being “Old Reliable” matters, why people choose us over some of our competitors.
In spite of today’s slowdown, Wheaton Home Improvement has experienced little decline year over year. Jack says that’s because people are making sure the purchases they make are sound ones. “One of the things that is generally true in a bad economy is people tend to stay in their homes. If they’re staying in their homes, they come to the realization that they want to fix things up to be comfortable in the house.”
The first areas that tend to be given attention are those concerning energy efficiency: drafty windows or doors that are falling apart. And these are needs that should be addressed, whether the economy is good or bad. “These are ongoing needs people have,” Jack says.
Wheaton Home Improvement stays up to date on the latest trends and products, with Energy Star-rated windows as well as 100% green windows. “Having the experience and time in this business is what it’s all about. It tells you we’re doing the right things.”
Wheaton Home Improvement has remodeled Vice President Gore’s house and the homes of members of congress and business leaders. “They say Washington, D.C. is the most powerful city in the most powerful country in the world. We’re fortunate to do business here. We’re used to dealing with customers with high expectations and do our best to deliver.”

When we first bought our house 23 years ago we thought is was the perfect house. It wasn’t long thereafter that we noticed that some things didn’t work as well for us. For example, we both like to cook but the kitchen wasn’t designed for two people using it at the same time. We liked our location so there was no reason to move. No long after we started to remodel the house. We have remodeled our house in stages during the past 20+ years and always had happy results. We wrote a book called The Happy Remodelers to offer our experience to other homewoners that may plan remodeling their houses. If you are planning to stay at your home, a new bathroom, kitchen, or addition may add much enjoyment to your life.

[...] Now a homeowner myself, I have the opportunity to be on the opposite end of the table from the local contractors. In tackling our own remodel, my previous experience helped me to choose which contractors I wanted working on my home. Probably the most important value I learned through my work experience is the importance of maintaining a strong reputation. [...]
