Sometimes for things as simple as partitioning a large room into two by adding a wall in the middle, you might need to get an ok from the local building codes enforcement agency. This is something that both renters and landlords need to have in mind before deciding on some projects: check your local building codes, and if it is an apartment building or condo complex, check with the condo association too.
