Lushpad – A Modern Collector’s Paradise

It’s hard to keep track of the millions of new websites and online stores that seem to sprout up from nowhere. Many of these sites offer multiple products in too many categories and tend to lack any sense of unique proposition. These types of sites are easily lost in the crowd. Once in a while, a new site sprouts that is refreshing, makes sense, and is so niched you’d never forget what it is they sell. Lushpad is one of those sites.
Lushpad launched in August and already, they’re making the rounds in conversations of who’s who in cyberspace, not to mention they’ve been nominated for Daily Candy’s Sweetest Things of 2008.
What’s a Lushpad and why would you want one?
Though the name conjures up a few suggestions, it’s actually a unique online buy & sell marketplace for modern collectors of contemporary furniture, secondary market fine art, and accessories.
The CEO behind this clever brainchild is Melanie Carlson of the Vancouver, Canada area. Although she is new to the cyber world of doing business, it doesn’t show. The site is simple, clean, user friendly, and resourceful. “In the spirit of democratizing good design, Lushpad is a resource for everyone, where buyers and sellers can connect at every price point. If you have an authentic original, licensed original, reproduction, or contemporary artwork to sell, or if you are in the market for furniture, art and/or information, this is where you belong.”
Buying?
You’ll find art ranging from $58 to $25,000, lighting from $60 to $6,500, and seating in price ranges that will accommodate anyone’s budget. My favorite category is the huge and incredible selection of vintage chairs and sofas. I’ve got dibs on that gorgeous light green mid century chaise lounge for $599.
Selling?
If you have contemporary furniture, art or accessories you can sell them on Lushpad at a very reasonable fee. If your item is listed for under $250 your ad is free, between $250 and $800 it runs $8, and anything over $800 is $12. During their special promotional period all listings are free, but you better hurry because the offer expires at the end of January, 2009.
Searching?
If you’re searching for a particular item but can’t find it anywhere, just click on the Place Ads tab and then check the Wanted Items box. From there you can post a free ad detailing the item you’re searching the planet for.
A gift from Lushpad
When you become a newsletter subscriber you’re automatically eligible for their monthly giveaways. I’m not saying for sure but rumor has it the January prize will be a Harri Koskinen block Lamp.
Lushpad is a great idea with an equally great product. Their inventory isn’t huge, yet. But, don’t forget they’ve only been up and running for five months. This business definitely has what it takes to be successful.
