Our friend Tim at Charles & Hudson did a fantastic job covering the 2010 International Builders Show in Las Vegas. It looks like James Hardie and Pella Windows were the big hits this year, with larger-than-life displays and even a build-your-own-window booth. Very cool. There were even some funny surprises! Take a look at these strange displays
Home Show No-Nos
The Lumber Liquidators Bobsled? Having a hard time understanding the connection liquidate lumber into water, freeze it into ice and proceed to bobsled down that sucker? Or maybe they just love bobsleds. I know I do.
Or the Swarovski Napoleon Fireplace?! Definitely a beautiful, albeit it over-the-top piece. This fireplace holds a necklace ember bed filled with glass elements to reflect the flames glow in every direction. Its obviously a fantastic item for an upscale home. Pretty to look at, nice for dreaming, but not a practical solution to heat your home (or spend your money). There were other incredible fireplaces on display as well.
Wells Fargo Stagecoach - This is cute and all, but come on, show me the money instead. Id rather see Wells Fargo and other banks attending home shows looking for ways to show support, like approving building and home purchasing loans.
Elevators - I cant think of one home that has an elevator in it. Like Tim points out, trends are supposedly shifting toward smaller homes, so where would folks even put an elevator? Oh well, its cool to look at!
