Redwoods are not your typical deck & patio material, but the California Redwood Company (CRC) is offering homeowners a unique choice to set their backyards apart from the rest. With over 120 years behind them, the CRC is committed to sustainable forestry practices that help ensure redwoods are around for years to come.

So why are redwoods such a great building material? Here are a few reasons that might get you itching to update your own deck.

Redwood is:

Lightweight, stable and easy to work with.
Very low-maintenance and simple to clean.
Cool during the summer—a plus for bare feet.
Not prone to warping, splitting or shrinking.
Naturally resistant to fire and insects.
Easily finished and/or re-stained.

CRC currently has two collections of redwood decking materials to choose from: the California Series and the Heritage Collection. The California Series is a more traditional choice with a 2×6 board shape and three styles to choose from, while the Heritage Collection offers a more elegant look with two board profiles and refined, hand-selected redwood.

Yeah, the lounge in the second photo is totally chic and amazing… not sure that I’d choose redwood for a deck (this company is fairly sustainable, but I would still rather go with recycled or engineered wood). On the flip side, though, it sure is stunning.
