What Costs are associated with kitchen remodeling?
Great question. Setting a realistic budget for your kitchen remodel is the first step of the project. Look at remodeling like airline seating - you have economy, coach and first class. Then, add in the contractor. Contractors account for roughly 30% of the cost and they’re worth every dime.
Economy (Average) Kitchen Remodel
Full remodels of average-sized kitchens cost anywhere from $20,000 to $25,000, including labor. You can save on labor costs by purchasing pre-built kitchen cabinets at your local home improvement store and staining them yourself. Countertop options include tile, laminate and ceramic. You can find fixtures, sinks and lighting in the lower to middle-end range that are really nice. Shop online for maximum value. Flooring options include materials like wood laminate, vinyl and tile. A new dishwasher, range and refrigerator will cost about $2,500. Paint and cabinet hardware typically run you $400 maximum.
Upgrading to coach can cost another $10,000 to $20,000, and with first class, the sky’s the limit.
